The concept of a “coffin party” is an abstraction of the Buddhist meditative tradition of Maranasati. The mindfulness of death can be a helpful tool for liberation. Nature is in a constant state of change: of life, death, birth, and rebirth. Mental states and the body are in consistent change and flux. There is nothing new in death, BUT! sitting with it, is something that our culture does it’s best to avoid.

I invite you to sit with your death.

Since 2018, Kate has hosted a number of private and public Coffin Parties. Guests are invited to lay in one of Kate’s Coffins in this “choose your own adventure” art project, and contemplate their mortality.
